Leaves in New Hampshire

On Monday we drove up from Sebago Lake, ME to North Conway, NH to meet our friends Jim and Sally from Carlsbad, NM. After a get-re-acquainted lunch (at the Lobster Trap – see Food Tourism) we headed off up the road to see what the leaves in New Hampshire were doing. As you can see from the picture, they were marginally better than in the Adirondacks, but still not particularly good. I'll say more later when we get further in New Hampshire and on into Vermont, but let's put it this way – the leaves are spectacular compared to what we're used to seeing in the SouthWest and even in Seattle, but they're way below what we had expected to see.

In one village we passed through there was a striking confluence of a red-leafed tree with a stark white church of the type that exist throughout all of New England. At another place there was a whole crowd of people taking pictures of "The Silver Cascade."
